| TWIC IS MANDATORY! |
 |
| Notice to all truck drivers, port workers and visitors. | |
10/30/2008 The South Jersey Port Corporation and all other Delaware River ports are scheduled to begin enforcing the use of Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card at all port terminals on the December 30, 2008. This new federal regulation will be monitored and enforced by the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as each participating marine terminal. As such, all truck drivers and all visitors who need unescorted access entering the Beckett Street Terminal or Broadway Terminal in Camden, NJ will be required to possess a TWIC card in order to enter and be serviced.
To avoid delays in loading or unloading cargo, it is paramount that you ensure all truck drivers and other personnel accessing our facilities have a TWIC. If cargo is unable to be picked up, congestion on the docks could impact the ability of the ports to service ships. The South Jersey Port Corporation strongly recommends that all personnel who will need to have access to our terminals enroll immediately to avoid losing your access authorization to the port! Assuming your application is not rejected due to certain disqualifying factors which may be appealed, it may take anywhere from six (6) to eight (8) weeks to get a card after enrolling.
Those needing a TWIC card can pre-enroll online at www.tsa.gov/twic.. Pre-enrolling speeds up the process by allowing applicants to provide biographic information, to schedule a time to complete the application process in person, and to eliminate waiting at enrollment centers.
TWIC enrollment centers are located throughout the United States. A TWIC enrollment center is located at the Broadway Terminal at Building P-6, 2500 Broadway, Camden, NJ. The center is open Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. For information about additional enrollment centers near you, please click on the following link to www.tsa.gov/twic.
The cost of the TWIC card is $132.50 and it is valid for five years. You can pay for the card in the enrollment center with a certified check, a business check, a money order, a MasterCard or a Visa card. A personal check will not be accepted for payment. For a list of documents needed to enroll please visit www.tsa.gov/twic.
About the TWIC Program:
TWIC was established by the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) and the Security and Accountability For Every Port Act (SAFE) to serve as an identification program for all Coast Guard credentialed mariners and personnel requiring unescorted access to secure areas within a port. Since the program’s commencement, more than 150 fixed enrollment centers and dozens of mobile sites have been opened nationwide.
The South Jersey Port Corporation urges you to enroll now to ensure you will have a TWIC card by December 20, 2008. If you do not have a TWIC card you will not be able to enter the Beckett Street Terminal or the Broadway Terminal, as well as every other MTSA port terminal in the United States!
I appreciate your immediate attention to this extremely important port security regulation, which will have a direct impact to your business if not addressed timely.
